Health is probably the most important factor for happiness. Without health, everything else is diminished and your ability to celebrate being alive are limited. It affects every aspect of your life from your independence to self-image, energy levels and relationships. Pain and fatigue are not fun. But encroaching age means more things go wrong with our bodies as parts wear out.

Hindsight is a fine teacher but it’s too late now to wish we’d prioritised health more in our younger days. However, there’s still heaps we can do to preserve and nurture what we have now. Personally, I don’t want to so obsessively health-nutty that not a preservative or inorganic veggie passes my lips, nor do I want to take so many supplements and tonics that my pee becomes a very expensive Day-Glo orange. But I do want to be as fit and well as I can be without being a boring slave to fanaticism because the truth is we will all eventually die. It depends on what you want the quality and length of your life to be.
